Spanky was found wandering the city streets of Pittsburgh. Fortunately for Spanky, the street she chose was home to a member of Animal Friends' (no-kill shelter) board. As a shelter volunteer, I was asked what I knew about pit bulls and would I consider fostering one. This was at the height of pit bull hysteria in the city. As I went to pick up Spanky, I questioned my sanity. Long story short, Spanky was such a wonderful dog, her foster home became her permanent home until her death 16.5 years later.
